4 Reasons Why You Should Filter Your Child's Shower and Bath Water

4 Reasons Why You Should Filter Your Child's Shower and Bath Water

Posted by Sarah Wylie on

There’s something we don’t often think about when bathing our children. The water itself.

We obsess over the right skincare, the cleanest hair wash, the sensitive skin towels. But the truth is, if your child’s skin is dry, itchy, or reactive after baths, tap water can be part of the puzzle.

Here’s why it matters, especially for little ones.

1. Their skin is thinner and more easily irritated.

A child’s skin barrier is still developing in the early years, its up to 30% thinner  compared to adult skin. It can be more delicate and more easily irritated by everyday triggers.

That’s why some kids come out of the bath with skin that feels tight, dry, or itchy, even when you are using gentle products.

When their skin is already sensitive, what touches it every day matters.

2. Chlorine is a disinfectant, not a moisturiser

Australian tap water is treated to keep it safe. One common method is adding disinfectants like chlorine, and in some areas, chloramines.

That is important for water safety, but it does not mean it feels gentle on skin.

Warm water plus daily washing can already dry the skin out. Add strong smelling treated water, and some kids end up feeling even more stripped after a shower or bath.

If your water has that pool smell, you are not imagining it.

3. Ageing pipes and plumbing can affect what comes out of your tap

Even if your water is treated well, it still has to travel through pipes and plumbing before it reaches your bathroom.

Depending on your home and your area, tap water can pick up things you cannot see, like sediment, mineral content, and trace impurities from infrastructure.

Kids do not need perfect water. They just deserve water that feels kinder on their skin and scalp every day.

4. Bath time is full contact

A shower is one thing. A bath is another.

In a bath, your child is soaking in the water. Their whole body is in contact with it for longer. They splash it on their face, rub their eyes, and it sits on their skin and scalp.

So if your child’s skin is already prone to dryness or irritation, bath water quality can matter more than people realise.

So, what’s the solution

This is exactly why we created Happy Filter.

The Diamond Shower Filter is made for daily showers, especially for families who want a gentler shower routine for skin and hair.

The Skincare Faucet Filter is perfect for bath taps, so your little one is not soaking in unfiltered water during bath time.

It is a small switch that can make a big difference in how bath time feels, especially for kids with sensitive skin.

Because when it comes to our children, the smallest changes often matter the most.
